Marlins English Language Tests

This Marlins English Language Tests have been developed by both testing experts and subject matter experts and has been piloted world-wide. This has contributed to the validity and reliability of the test.

The tests are suitable for all ranks, positions and nationalities and the questions are set within the context of their industry sector. There are hundreds of questions contained within the database which are randomly selected. This ensures no two tests are the same.

Please take care when completing the online personal information before starting the test as it is not possible to correct any spelling errors or mistakes once you have started the test and your certificate has been printed out.

It is strongly advised you take the practice test before attempting the main test in order to familiarise yourself with the different types of questions.

During the test you may return to any question at any point to change your answer. You will also have the chance to return to any unanswered questions at the end of the test before finishing.

In the event of the computer crashing, power failure or loss of internet connection during the test, re-enter your license code to resume the test from where you left off. Please note, the license code will expire after 36 hours after the test has started if it has not been completed in this time.

ISF Marlins English Language Test For Seafarers

Each test consists of a total of 85 questions which are broken down into the following categories:

  • Listening comprehension (25 questions)
  • Grammar (30 questions)
  • Vocabulary (15 questions)
  • Different sounds and pronunciation (9 questions)
  • Reading (1 questions)
  • Time and numbers (5 questions)

The final score is calculated as an overall percentage.

There is no time limit for taking the test but the recommended maximum time is 60 minutes.

Marlins English Language Test For Cruise Ship Staff

Each test consists of a total of 50 questions which are broken down into the following categories:

  • Listening comprehension (14 questions)
  • Grammar (19 questions)
  • Vocabulary (12 questions)
  • Reading (1 questions)
  • Time and numbers (4 questions)

The final score is calculated as an overall percentage.

There is no time limit for taking the test but the recommended maximum time is 30 minutes.

Marlins English Language Test For Offshore Workers

Each test consists of a total of 85 questions which are broken down into the following categories:

  • Listening comprehension (28 questions)
  • Grammar (28 questions)
  • Vocabulary (17 questions)
  • Reading (1 questions)
  • Time and numbers (6 questions)
There is no time limit for taking the test but the recommended maximum time is 60 minutes.
